The reconciliation of mind and spirit
“For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.”

-Robert Jastrow

Science is now discovering what Eastern mystics have always known – that we are all part of a dynamic and inseparable web and that our one thought, our one deed, our one smile, our one glance, can change the world. We are seeing increasing evidence of this convergence of science and spirituality in such discoveries as quantum entanglement.

Quantum entanglement refers to the way particles of energy/matter can become correlated to predictably interact with each other regardless of how far apart they are. What determines the form the interaction takes, incredibly, is our observation. Both particles will spin in two directions at once until we look at one of them and, by our free choice, lock it into a single spin state. Then its correlated particle will begin to spin in the opposite direction, even if both particles are half a world away from each other. In essence, despite the huge distance between them, they are entangled.
